Thank you for your interest in the Northern Care Alliance and this great opportunity to join us as our new Chief Nurse.

Formally established on 1 October 2021, The Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust (NCA) brings together colleagues and services from Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust (SRFT) and The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust (PAT).  Our dedicated team of around 19,000 staff delivers healthcare excellence to over one million people across Bury, Oldham, Rochdale and Salford, as well as providing more specialist services to patients from Greater Manchester and beyond.

Our patients and service users receive a range of integrated health and social care services at their home or in their community or are treated and cared for in one of our four hospitals – Salford Royal Hospital, The Royal Oldham Hospital, Rochdale Infirmary or Fairfield General Hospital in Bury. Our aim is to deliver consistently high standards of care to them all.

I joined the NCA as Chief Executive last year and have been impressed and inspired by the commitment and dedication I have witnessed from my colleagues here. They continue to show resilience, compassion and professionalism despite the pressure and demand of delivering care and supporting their colleagues in recovery from the pandemic and as we seek to work more closely with our partners across the health and social care sector in Greater Manchester.

Our Vision 10 programme is a long term plan to set out how, over the next decade, we will become the safest and most effective organisation in the NHS. We want to be a place people all over the country will want to work. We want to challenge inequalities and improve health in all our Places. To improve our population’s health is a key area of focus in our transformation. 

As our Chief Nurse you will play a critical role in helping us to deliver our vision. As a member of the Board and Executive you will share accountability for overall delivery of performance and financial sustainability as well as contribute to a culture which is patient centred, empowers staff, promotes personal accountability, is fair and collaborative and delivers continuous improvement.

Highly visible with colleagues across that Trust you will develop a local, regional and national presence so that we are able to engage on matters relevant to advancing the nursing, midwifery, AHP and social care professions.

You will provide vision, inspiration, professional leadership and strategic direction to Care Organisation Directors of Nursing, Director of Midwifery, AHP and Social Care leads. This will include a focus on talent management, succession planning and development of education and research in these areas to ensure that we have skilled and motivated teams not only now, but in the future.

Working closely with the Chief Medical Officer you will drive and support the development of care models that deliver place based integrated care and will have responsibility for the development of our quality strategy.  Championing the role of digital to achieve transformation in quality and productivity will be essential to meeting our strategic ambitions.

If you are an experienced Director of Nursing with a breadth of experience, a reputation for clinical leadership, quality, improvement, a passion for excellent patient care and a focus on equity and inclusion, both for our staff and populations, then I am keen to hear from you.
