Leadership Recruitment

Chair and Non-Executive Welcome

Dear Candidate

Thank you for your interest in the Northern Care Alliance and this opportunity to join us as our new Chair or a Non Executive Director

Formally established on 1 October 2021, The Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust (NCA) brings together colleagues and services from Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust (SRFT) and The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust (PAT).  Our dedicated team of around 19,000 staff delivers healthcare excellence to over one million people across Bury, Oldham, Rochdale and Salford, as well as providing more specialist services to patients from Greater Manchester and beyond.

Our patients and service users receive a range of integrated health and social care services at their home or in their community or are treated and cared for in one of our four hospitals – Salford Royal Hospital, The Royal Oldham Hospital, Rochdale Infirmary or Fairfield General Hospital in Bury. Our aim is to delivered high standards of care to them all.

Our last Chair Michael Luger, who unexpectedly and very sadly died earlier this year, joined us in 2021 and played an integral part in our journey to formally becoming a single organisation. He leaves a strong foundation from which the new Chair can build alongside our Non-Executive Directors, Executive team and Chief Executive, Dr Owen Williams OBE.

The last two years has been tough for our people and population alike. I continue to be inspired and impressed by the commitment, dedication and professionalism shown by our colleagues despite the pressure and demand of delivering care and supporting their colleagues in recovery from the pandemic.

There is much to be proud of at the NCA, but still more to achieve, and our new Chair will be critical to us achieving our long term aims as set out in our Vision 10, as well as more immediate challenges as we focus on restoration and recovery and further integration with our health and social care partners across Greater Manchester. We want to be a place people all over the country will want to work. We want to challenge inequalities and improve health in all our Places.

Our Chair position is a rare leadership opportunity and a role of significant scope and profile, one that has the chance to impact the lives of the hundreds of thousands of people we serve.

We are looking for an individual with outstanding leadership qualities, compassion, and a passion for the work of the Health and Social care sector. You will be able to demonstrate a positive track record of inspiring organisations to excel in service delivery, be that in the health sector or a different environment.

As an experienced Chair, or Non Executive Director, you will understand the challenges of leading a large, complex and regulated person focused organisation. Skilled at working with executive teams, you will also bring strong political acumen and enjoy working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that NCA effectively supports the development of emerging system integration across the wider conurbation, through a partnership model with other health and social care providers.

We are also looking to appoint two Non Executive Directors. Firstly, someone who can bring the voice of our local communities into the boardroom, specifically, someone who has extensive, senior knowledge of local government, the responsibilities local authorities have and the issues they face with the increasing convergence of public and private sector policy-making.  The second is more flexible where we are looking for individuals who bring expertise and capability that support our strategic objectives.  For both roles we need people with the highest standards of personal integrity who share our values and who understand the importance of population health, and reducing health inequalities and the role health care providers can play in promoting it.

If you have this experience and a passion for improving the lives of patients, families and carers, across all our communities as well as the experience of our colleagues, then please do consider applying to join our team.

I look forward to meeting you during the process.

Chris Mayer
Interim Chair
